Six Sentence Sunday

Hello all,
It's me The Pied Piper with another Six Sentence Sunday. This is my third week participating. What is Six Sentence Sunday? It is a weekly blog where I post a six sentence teaser of either a work in progress, a published work, or a finish manuscript. If you'd like to check out other authors Six Sentences I encourage you to go to www.sixsunday.com. Trust me you won't be disappointed with what you find.

Today I'm posting six sentences from my newly finished manuscript Astrid Walker. It is a supernatural thriller with romantic elements about a young woman who suffers from a rare sleep disorder that allows her to astral project into other peoples dreams. Think love child of Freddy Kruger and Carrie White. This is from her very first experience.

Breath even, hand tucked under her cheek, mouth relaxed in an expression of peace, she’d never looked more content. Moonlight broke through a slit in the curtains over the window across the room illuminating her dark skin. She looked like a doll, it truly was a sight to see.

And she did…see it, that is.

Standing at the foot of the bed a seemingly whole Astrid in the same long white gown she’d worn to bed, was wearing asleep in bed, stood impossibly watching herself….
Sleep.

Six Sentence Sunday

Welcome to Six Sentence Sunday. This is my second week doing this and I’m still a bit nervous. This is where I post a six sentence excerpt from either a work in progress or a completed manuscript. Again, this is an excerpt from my completed manuscript Dead Inside. I’m picking up where we left off last Sunday after Amelia’s friend Tessa cuts her finger.
Suddenly, everything seemed to move in slow motion. Blood oozed from the cut in Tessa’s left index finger and slid down its length. Amelia watched mesmerized by each drop as if it were the best thing on TV. She could actually hear the blood pulsing through Tessa’s veins, pooling around the injury and coming out of her finger. Each drop sizzled like frying bacon and smelled just as tasty. Surprising her, Amelia’s stomach growled again, she was still hungry—famished.

The Pied Writer

Let's Take It Back.... Way...Back!

Hello, my faithful readers. How the heck are you? If you just answered that question to your computer out loud then you are truly a reader after my own heart.
In Today’s edition of The Pied Writer I’m going to be addressing the hot button issue known as: back story or background information.
Now, I’m by no means an authority on the subject and I’ve often found myself wandering down the rocky path of “where the hell does it go” and “how much is too much”. As a writer I know how important it is to bring your characters to life by giving them amazing back story that gets peppered through the entire book. As a reader I want to be drawn into the story by three dimensional characters with thick layers and rich, interesting lives.

However, there is a time and place for everything.
First, I’ll ask the question: how long do you have to be in the presence of an asshole to know the person you’re speaking with is an asshole? The answer: probably not long.

Welcome to Six Sentence Sunday

I've started something new. On Sunday I will be posting six sentences from either a work in progress or a completed manuscript. Today I'm entering six sentences from my completed manuscript Dead Inside. In this scene Amelia, the heroine, who is transitioning into a vampire unbeknownst to her, has her first experience with bloodlust.

“You’re gonna cut your finger off or stab out your eye!"
Tessa backed away still trying to open the bag. “I know what I’m doing, I’m a pr— Shit!” Tessa cried out, dropping the bag and knife.
Blood dripped from Tessa’s wound. Amelia licked her lips, suddenly entranced…
